Fraze mowing is an aggressive technique in which the top 1/4 - 1/2” of an entire athletic field is removed. This process is done to dispose of materials such as thatch, weed seed, and undesirable grass species. After fraze mowing, the athletic field is reestablished from the regrowth of strong, healthy rhizomes. Seed may also be supplemented if necessary. The results of this procedure not only provide a cleaner rootzone for improved plant health, but also a smoother surface for improved footing and ball roll.
